My journey began after a very personal and painful loss which led to me seeking answers through counselling. Through my own therapy I explored my life and experiences and my journey of self exploration and healing began. I studied at university obtaining a Bachelors degree which developed my intellectual understanding and my thirst for knowledge and understanding. In 1994 I successfully applied to work with Boystown as a counsellor and spent the next 4 years developing my practice and my understanding of the issues facing youth and families.
In 2000 I moved to the UK and was privileged to work in palliative care where I developed 3 successful projects for charitable organisations supporting families to care for friends and family members at home. Through this work I came in contact with many amazing organisations such as St Christopher's Hospice, Marie Curie Hospice and Macmillan. I developed individual training programmes for each project which have been described by the volunteers and other organisations as highly professional and thorough. Many volunteers felt that for them, the training was life changing.
In 2007 I made the decision to return to study to develop my therapeutic career further and this coincided with my return to Australia for 3 years. I completed a Master of Counselling in Brief Counselling including Solution Focused and Narrative Therapies plus some Process work. I concurrently completed 2 graduate diplomas, one in Gestalt Therapy and the other in Artistic Therapies. Both of these areas have featured in my own journey and each in their own way have helped me to unlock and explore many personal dark corners and to introduce the light of understanding.
While in Australia I again sought employment with Boystown working with youth and this time also with parents. I successfully completed several levels of Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) Provider Training which provided me with valuable tools for my work. Triple P is an Internationally recognised and respected parenting programme, developed in Queensland Australia.
In 2010 I returned and settled back in the UK. Through my past work with successful and professional organisations developing projects I have received many letters of thanks from individual clients, families and groups and learnt invaluable lessons about management, training and best practice which I've brought to my private practice.
My approach is client centred, integrative and psycho-dynamic. I use interactive, reflective approaches that allows and encourages clients to explore their own values and views. I enjoy sharing people's personal journeys as I continue my own. Professional development and networking is an important part of developing a healthy, ethical practice and I use clinical supervision, ongoing professional and personal training and workshops and personal therapy to guide the development of my practice and business.
I am a work in progress, as are we all!
